Ladies $9 Fashions
Ladies $9 Fashions was a chain of one-price woman's clothing discount outlets in Florida from 1987 to the early 1990s. The store sold women's apparel, consisting of out-of-season and overrun clothing, at a $9 price point, with "imperfect" goods sold at $4.50.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
Ladies $9 Fashions was begun in 1987, by Nancy Dugan and Tom Swayze. Prior to starting the chain, Nancy Dugan had been the divisional vice president of sportswear for L.S. Ayres, and Tom Swayze had worked as a regional manager for both J. Riggings and Chess King. Their first store, in the Woodlands Square Shopping Center, opened in Oldsmar, FL in May 1987.[2] A second store, in the Regency Square Shopping Center in Port Richey, FL was opened on November 1, 1987 with a third store, in the East Bay Plaza in Largo, FL planned for a post-Christmas opening at that time.[3]
In 1989, the chain had raised their prices to $9.90.[4] The last mention of the chain in newspapers comes from May 1993, with a listing of the Fashion Square location as delinquent on personal property taxes.[5]
