Target is an American discount retailer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Target was founded in 1962 as the discount store for Dayton's Department Store. Target would later sell of the department store division, then consolidated with Hudson's and Marshall Fields under the Marshall Fields nameplate, to May Department Stores of St. Louis, Missouri in 2001.
