Value Mart
Value Mart, sometimes referred to as The Value Mart, was a chain of indoor flea markets in Florida, operated by TJX Companies from 1992 to the mid 1990s.
History[edit | edit source]
Value Mart began in 1992, with a proposed total of 4 locations, all former Ames, originally Zayre, locations that were vacated during Ames' 1990 bankruptcy filing. Proposed locations were in Davie, Florida, Homestead, Florida, New Port Richey, Florida, and Bayonet Point, Florida.[1] The Bayonet Point located was not approved by the Pasco County Commission, on grounds that it would worsen existing traffic issues in the area.[2] While initially approved, the New Port Richey location was dropped shortly thereafter.[3] The Davie store opened April 11, 1992, followed by the Homestead store on July 8.[4][5] A third location, in Plant City, Florida, another former Ames, opened in October 1992, but closed only months later in February 1993.[6]
By 1994, it was reported that only the Davie location remained open, with the location in Homestead having already closed.[7]
